Microsoft surprised everyone at its E3 keynote yesterday when the company announced the new Xbox 360. The new Xbox 360 which is the same old Xbox 360 from the inside features a completely new design on the outside. This was an unexpected announcement at a time when the company is going to release the Xbox One in the coming months.
The new model of Xbox 360 features a design that is inspired by the new design of Xbox One. Microsoft clearly wanted to give the years old console a better look to make it more appealing to people looking for a cheaper gaming console than its latest offering of Xbox One, which will cost $499 on release. The new Xbox 360 in Microsoft’s own words is smaller, sleeker and quieter than the previous model. Arguably the new Xbox 360 is more appealing than the design of the Xbox One which features way better specifications and features than the older generation.
Microsoft is simply calling this new model of previous generation Xbox as Xbox 360 and has refrained itself from adding words like Slim etc. The new Xbox 360 is already shipping in different parts of the world including the US, UK, Canada, Ireland and Australia. Microsoft plans to release it in other markets as well in the coming months.
The Xbox 360 has a lot of great games that users can still enjoy by purchasing the cheaper console before jumping onto more pricey and powerful Xbox One. However Microsoft doesn’t want to keep things dull and has announced that “Hundreds of new games” are coming to the console in coming years, which will keep the new model of Xbox alive in the Xbox One era.
As mentioned above the new model has the same specs as the older model. Microsoft has announced that the retail price for this new version of Xbox 360 will be $200 for 4GB model. Users can add Kinect into the equation and then the console will cost $300. The 250GB model will also be available to the users at a price of $300 excluding the Kinect. [Engadget]
